The formulations comprise an alkyl C1-C8 cyanoacrylate and an alkyl C1-C8 carboxyacrylate in a proportion from 10 to 30 % by volume with respect to the cyanoacrylate. The alkyl carboxyacrylate of formula (I) is a new product which is obtained from the corresponding cyanoacrylate by hydrolysis with hydrochloric acid. The compositions are packaged in independent containers the content of which is mixed not more than one hour before its use. It can be used in surgery as alternative means for the traditional suture and is specially appropriate in ophthalmics surgery.

A fingernail adhesive including a mixture of less than 1 % halogen-nitropropane as a fungicide and a cyanoacrylate adhesive. Preferably the halogen-nitropropane is bromo-nitropropane and the cyanoacrylate adhesive is selected from the group consisting of isopropyl, ethyl and methyl cyanoacrylate and mixtures thereof.

The present invention provides an improved activator and method of utilizing same in applying durable protective coating on natural or artificial nails. The activator utilized for curing a gel component has a viscosity of approximately 10 to 5000 centipoise. The activator preferably includes a solvent, a polymerization initiator, and a viscosity modifying agent. The present invention also provides a method for applying a protective coating on a nail surface.

Methods for the synthesis, properties and applications of alkyl 2-cyanoacrylates are surveyed. The reactions of alkyl 2-cyanoacrylates with various nucleophiles (thiols, alcohols, diols, hydrogen sulfide, phosphines, etc.) including a new reaction involving insertion of isocyanates into the C=C bonds in the adducts of alkyl 2-cyanaocrylates with trialkylphosphines are considered. The prospects for the use of alkyl 2-cyanoacrylates in organic synthesis, in the chemistry of polymers and in the chemistry of adhesives are described. The bibiolgraphy includes 177 references.

Applying RIP (Rubber Isostatic Pressing) to the ferrite sintered magnets, the following have been developed: (1) Ferrite sintered magnets having energy product as high as 5.12 MGOe (2) RIP setup for arc-segment magnets
